Cloud computing – Sytel Survey Reveals Top Priorities
At two exhibitions* this year, we asked
visitors** to our stand about the challenges facing any company aiming to deploying ‘cloud’ computing, and their perceptions
of the relative importance of each. We found that there were 2 concerns clearly uppermost on people’s minds.

The Challenges
Here’s the scenario we presented:
One of the big talking points in IT is ‘in the cloud’ computing. Many market participants see it as a sure thing, but others see it as a goal to be
achieved only when some key challenges have been met. This competition is aimed at getting you to think about those challenges.
Imagine that you are a CEO of a sizeable company that is considering out-sourcing a lot of your contact centre and communications provisioning to a hosted provider, either internal or external. We have listed 5 key challenges to be met.
Now see if you can rank these challenges in order of importance. Just write 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 against your preferences.
- Dynamic provisioning of agents, employees and other resources
- Secure multi-tenancy
- All applications web-based
- Immediate failover without outage
- All IP endpoints should be able to communicate directly, on demand
The Results
Two issues that stood out, consistently being ranked most important, were:
- Dynamic provisioning of agents, employees and other resources – 116 voted highest importance
(A recognition of the considerable down-time and therefore cost implications often involved in provisioning)
- Direct communication between all IP endpoints, on demand – 110 voted highest importance
(A recognition of the problems often occurring when managing SIP connections)

hosted solution offers, or
